Group Gift Tips

  1. If possible or appropriate, let people know you're setting up a gift event beforehand so they can expect the email from eDivvy and are not surprised.
  2. Encourage people to share the invitation. There might be a friend of a friend that knows the recipient. The more the merrier.
  3. Be sensitive to the financial capabilities of the individuals in your group. We think being part of a group event should be fun and stress free, as a result we encourage organizers to set a minimum contribution amount that won't alienate those that want to contribute, but are not able to contribute as much as others in the group.
  4. It's helpful if the organizer contributes first to kick off the group gift in the beginning. This will give invitees confidence to participate if they see a contribution has already been made.
  5. Communicate personally with invitees you know should be contributing, but have not. Although eDivvy sends out automated emails, some people miss the email, and similar to confirming whether wedding guests will attend, sometimes it takes a phone call or personal email to remind them to contribute.
  6. If the gift is not a surprise, post the event on social networks that other friends you may have forgotten can see.
  7. Share the excitement you have with people who are thinking of going at it alone. Tell them you are organizing a gift event the recipient would really be excited and appreciative of and that it would be great if they were a part of it - they'll save time and be a part something bigger than themselves.
  8. If the gift is being delivered to the recipient directly, please inform them that there is a surprise gift on its way. Let the recipient know which merchant they should expect a delivery from. (see Organizer Actions after contribution deadline).
  9. Send the greeting card link to the recipient so the recipient can say thank you to those who contributed.
  10. Although eDivvy will email the organizer when the gifts have been shipped, to minimize the perception of spam to your participants, we do not notify the entire group. As a result, we recommend the organizer to let the group know the Gift(s) have been shipped.
