Blind Start of America (BLINDSTART) is an award-winning 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to help blind and visually impaired persons learn and develop job skills to empower them to lead lives of independence. BLINDSTART is one of the fastest growing non-profit organizations in the country. We vow to bring Awareness and Education throughout America with our niche "Visionary Experience...Blindfolded!" events, sharing the challenges of the Blind community while having fun!

This year, BLINDSTART celebrates the 20th anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and introduces a new project called the "50/50 Home Promise Plan" where we will identify 50 qualified disabled Americans, pair them with 50 employers, and place them on a career track and home ownership path.

On July 31, 2010, 36 volunteers will make history representing Blind Start of America paddling BLIND or BLINDFOLDED in the 2010 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival. This will be BLINDSTART’s first "Visionary Experience Blindfolded!" Dragon Boat race. Each paddler is blind or blindfolded, guided only by the boat’s drummer and steersman, working together to compete against sighted racers. This will be a true test of determination and teamwork.
